Ugly Betty losing steam?

Ugly Betty News has written a great piece asking the question: “Has Ugly Betty Lost The Funny?“.  It’s largely in response to Michael Ausiello giving the season finale a “C” rating and offering the following critique:

As I feared, ABC is looking at those sagging ratings and fixing what ain’t broken. I’m all for refocusing the show around Betty, but does it have to come at the expense of the funny?

UBN does a nice job explaining why the series has not “lost the funny” and should be something great to watch next season.  Check out their full article for more.

Is an Ugly Betty Musical Coming Soon?

Michael Urie, who plays assistant Marc St. James, has told a British radio station that Ugly Betty might be heading for Broadway.

“They do want to do an “Ugly Betty” musical, a full-on Broadway musical, but it’s all hush-hush. I think it would be great, and they should use the cast from the show. I think we would all do it, although we maybe don’t dance and sing as well as professional singers and dancers. I think it would be fun for us to do it for a while, and then they could get real people in. They definitely want to do an episode that is a musical one, but then they want to do a full stage show. I think it’s a great idea. It would definitely work.”

It seems crazy, but he seems pretty convinced.  Vanessa Williams has some experience with dancing and singing, so maybe it could happen…

Ratings rise as the season ends

Despite a pretty negative trend with the weekly ratings, Ugly Betty ended with a nice rise for the last few episodes.  Ugly Betty News points us to a nice chart at Entertainment Now that shows the ratings for each episode:

Due to the writer’s strike, that was a pretty common trend this season.  It’s nice to see that rise at the end, indicating that viewers were starting to get back into their routine.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the show starts back up this fall.

“Jump”, the Ugly Betty season finale

Ok, so the much-hyped appearance by Lindsay Lohan was a bit of a bust.  As TV Squad put it, “even the little French kid had more screen time”.  Of course, she’ll be back next season, so it’ll be interested to see how they work her in.

There’s no need for me to explain the entire epsidoe, as both TV Squad and Ugly Betty News have written very thorough recaps.

Lindsay Lohan will be in the season finale

When the season finale airs next Thursday, there will be a new cast member joining the show — Lindsay Lohan.  According to BuddyTV, Lindsay will appear in the season finale and will be a part of five episodes next season.

I really can’t say how I feel like this.  On one hand, it’s always neat to see high-profile celebs guest star in a show.  On the other hand, there is already some great chemistry with this current cast members and you always wonder how a change like this might effect them.

We’ll find out in a few days…
